Apples & Oranges is an independent artists’ books fair held annually in Limburg. It presents a cross-section of contemporary approaches to artists’ books and creates a space for an encounter between artists’ books, their makers, and their collectors, researchers, and lovers. We are launching an open call for participants in the 2nd edition of the fair that will take place in Genk at the end of September.

About Apples and Oranges
Apples and Oranges takes place over one weekend in Genk and combines an artists' books fair (Sunday 01.10) with a curated programme of talks, workshops and performances (Saturday 30.09). Apples & Oranges is an artist-focused fair, foregrounding individual artists and collectives who approach publishing as an artistic practice. The event’s title alludes to the incomparable diversity of different forms that come under the umbrella term of ‘artists’ books’. Apples & Oranges creates a platform where artists can meet and present, sell, or swap their work. It is as much a commercial opportunity as an occasion to network, create new connections, and exchange ideas on what (self)publishing as an artistic practice may mean today.

Who can apply?
Individuals and collectives, small independent publishers and artist-run organisations who see publishing as part of their artistic practice, regardless of their age, experience, or disciplinary background (visual arts, design, performance, creative writing, ...).

Practical information
The fair takes place at the compressors hall at C-mine, Genk (1st floor of the Energy Building) on Sunday, 01.10 from 13.00 until 19.00 (exact times to be confirmed). The installation of the stands is possible on 30.09 and 01.10.
The organisers provide infrastructure, support with installation and communication, and catering for participating artists.There is no participation nor entrance fee. All profits from the sale of the works remain with the artists.

How to apply?
Send your CV, portfolio, and a brief description of what you’re planning to present (max. 500 words, you may include supplementary visual material) to Dit e-mailadres wordt beveiligd tegen spambots. The selected participants will be contacted by mid-July.

Apples and Oranges is a collaboration between Jester, Odapark, PXL, and Zero Desk, and will annually travel between the partners in Genk, Hasselt and Venray. The project is curated by a group of professionals from the partner organisations and invited experts. At least half of the fair participants are selected on the basis of an open call.
